3 Types of Parenting Styles

I am so riveted by the three types of parenting styles! There are more subcategories of these overarching ones, but for the most part the following scenarios will incorporate almost every parenting style.

Authoritative

Imagine keeping yourself composed when your child is flailing and screaming. Just taking it all in and wondering, "What is going on inside that noggin." Then approaching the child to help calm them down. Listening to what they are saying with their words and actions. A toy was taken? Sadness? Bruised arm? They must have fought with a sibling and came to me for some sort of complaint.

Try avoiding being a know-it-al parent. Just hug it out and ask questions, avoid solving their problems, unless they ask a specific question for counsel, just give emotional support.

Authoritarian

Imagine keeping yourself composed when your child is flailing and screaming. Just taking it all in and wondering, "What is going on inside that noggin." Then commanding them to calm the heck down or go to their room until they can stop crying. Sorry you're mad, but I'm busy and you're overreacting.

I know how to solve this problem. Label it unimportant and move along.

Passive/ Permissive

Imagine keeping yourself composed when your child is flailing and screaming. You're just taking it all in and wondering, "What is going on inside that noggin." Then just shrugging your shoulders and walking away.
